Anti-social behaviour
What you can do
Try and solve the problem yourself – if you can talk to the person causing the problem without putting yourself at risk, this is often the best way. Pointing out that their behaviour is upsetting you may be enough. When you approach your neighbour you should:
- stay calm
- explain why their behaviour is upsetting you
- be tactful (it’s often wise to work out what you are going to say before you approach them)
- listen closely to what your neighbour has to say and take the time to think about what is said
- they may have a point when seen from their perspective.
If none of the above works and you think your neighbour is still being unreasonable, you should walk away and contact your Tenancy Manager for further advice. They will agree a plan of action with you in a bid to help you solve the problem.
For example, we may interview the person you say caused the trouble, along with other witnesses, or we may visit the area or people’s homes with the police,
