Other things to consider
Asbestos
Yes, asbestos is dangerous and the work may require removal or encapsulation of asbestos containing material. If this is the case the work will be done in a specially controlled manner. If this requires part of your home to be sealed or tented off, please do not enter this sealed area until you have been advised that you can.
Respite facilities
Where possible we will provide a local respite, somewhere you can go to get away from the work if it is too noisy and disruptive. The respite will have basic facilities and you will be expected to return home later that day. Be prepared to share the respite and share your experience with other residents.
Insurance
Have you got home or household insurance? If so, most policies require you to advise your insurer when work is being undertaken to your home.
Decoration
We will not necessarily consider redecoration as part of the work. However if you are planning to redecorate your home after modernisation work has been completed please discuss this with the RLO.
Do you have any special needs?
Before work starts we will work with you to confirm if you have any particular needs or considerations. This may be as simple as confirming that you have pets in the property, or something which will not be obvious to us such as particular medical needs or shift working. If you don’t tell us we won’t know and will not be able to advise you and help prepare the work to be as least disruptive as possible.
The RLO is especially skilled in being able to provide a link service and may call on other people such as an Occupational Therapist to help prepare for the work and ensure that the finished work meet your longer term needs.
Always check identification
With work proposed and underway, there will be many people coming and going. Everyone will have identification and you will be advised in advance of any visits to your home. Please do not allow access to your home to anyone who cannot prove their identity and if you are unsure always ask the RLO.
