Leaseholders
Your lease
Main facts about your lease
Enfield Council is the freeholder of the block that your property is in and you are the lessee (the leaseholder). Your lease is the legal document that sets out the relationship between the council and you. A lease can be difficult to understand. We have produced a guide to help you understand your lease, but it is not a legal document. If your lease and the guide seem to be saying different things, please treat your lease as the correct document.Your legal adviser should explain your lease to you so that you understand the council’s and your responsibilities. This guide called About your lease can be downloaded from the publications section of this website.
Your lease:
- lasts for 125 years from the date when the first flat or maisonette in your block was sold
- finishes at the same time as the lease for the first flat or maisonette sold in the block
- comes with a separate ‘memorandum of apportionment’, which tells you how we work out charges for common repairs and services
- sets out the ground rent (£10 a year), which you pay the council (the freeholder).
Regulations
You must comply with any regulations for managing and running your block and estate.
