Grand opening of children's play area at Ashton Road
Local children from Ashton Road will be able to have lots of fun on the new play equipment at the Ashton Road play area which was officially opened after refurbishment on Friday the 29 May.
Enfield Council funded the project, and worked with FECA, Ordance Road Community Association and Enfield Homes to develop the play area and all were delighted to welcome residents and children from Ashton Road to the grand opening.
The Lead Member for Housing, Councillor Matthew Laban said: "It's great pleasure to officially open the Ashton Road play area, it shows how committed we are to developing Eastern Enfield. I hope children in the area enjoy all the excellent new play equipment".
Bob Heapy, Chief Executive of Enfield Homes was also present for the occasion, and was delighted with the improved play area for the children, he said: "We worked together to make this project work and to ensure that the play area fulfils the needs of the local children; FECA, Ordance Road Community Association and the residents of Ashton Road contributed enormously. It's great to see that the children are going to have hours of fun in this new play area."
The area consists of play equipment for young people aged between 5-15 years old and at the opening a new climbing apparatus was unveiled. The flooring also benefitted from some resurfacing with new cushioned impact area under the new equipment.
Vouchers were given out to the first 50 children so that they could get free goodies from the ice-cream van. The children also enjoyed playing with the Scrapp Project, who specialise in novel ways of modelling recycled materials, as well as enjoying time on the bouncy castle.
A child from Ashton Road, Jamie Marshall, was asked what she liked best in the play area and said: "I like the swings because me and my cousin like to see who can go the highest". Resident, Christine Rosil said: "I'm pleased because it's safe for children to play in and have fun!"
