Community festival fun!
Enfield Homes has organised five successful festivals on our housing estates around Enfield. These were jointly arranged by Enfield Homes’ Tenant Involvement Unit and The Federation of Enfield Community Associations Limited (FECA), using events company ‘Ubique Leisure’.
The festivals started on the bright and sunny afternoon of Saturday 25 July at Grove Street in Edmonton, and were at a variety of locations on different dates, with the last one taking place at the weekend, on Sunday 13 September in Springfield Road, New Southgate.
This was the second year of Enfield Homes hosting these events and we continued to build upon the earlier festivals’ successes, with over 2500 people attending this year.
The events promoted community cohesion, youth engagement and sustainability. These key areas were supported by: a faith quiz where by visiting the faith area and meeting the different faith groups participants could complete their entry and win HMV vouchers; a roving ‘vox pops’ video reporting crew was on hand with young ‘reporters’ interviewing other young people to get their ideas on shaping services and the area in which they live; there was a ‘play wall’ where younger people could write their answers to questions on large two metre high, three dimension letters. Please see the other pages in this edition of Housing News for further details about this.
As well as these there were: a variety of singing, dancing, clown and entertainment acts with plenty of audience participation, artistic face painting, exciting bouncy castle and slide rides, ‘Kidsrome – the farm on the mooove’ with a variety of animals to see and stroke, a climbing wall for the more ambitious, as well as a variety of interesting rides and marquees packed with information stalls from the voluntary sector, Enfield Council and Enfield Homes, our partner organisations and contractors.
Litsa Worrall, Enfield Homes Chair, said: “It’s really rewarding to see our festivals bloom year on year with different venues added and even more activities for families to see and do. I feel that the Enfield Homes’ name is really starting to be embedded in our communities and we are improving our services and delivering quality in our residents’ homes.
With our two star Audit Commission inspection rating we are in a strong position to deliver the government’s Decent Homes and our investment programmes.”
