Council tax

Council tax is payable to Enfield Council and covers the cost of providing local services, including the emergency services. You are responsible for paying your council tax. The cost of your council tax will be set out in a letter sent to you each year.

Help with your council tax

If you are on a low income, unemployed, a pensioner or receiving other benefits, you may be entitled to a council tax rebate – called Council Tax Benefit. If you are claiming Housing Benefit to help with your rent, your entitlement to Council Tax Benefit will be assessed at the same time. You can also apply for several council tax discounts, depending on your circumstances. See your council tax bill for details or call 020 8379 1000.

Insurance

You should take out contents insurance for your property so that you can pay for the costs of repairing or replacing anything that gets accidentally damaged. If items inside your home are damaged by accident, or through the carelessness of another resident, your insurance should cover this.

Your insurance company would recover the costs, where it could, from the other person’s insurance company. Enfield Council has arranged a special low-cost insurance scheme with Norwich Union, which is open to all the council’s tenants and leaseholders. Contact Enfield Homes on freephone 0800 40 80 160 for more information about the scheme or for an application form.

Enfield Council is responsible for insuring the structure of your home but not the contents.
