Asbestos

Asbestos was used in building materials up to the mid-1980s. Areas in your home where you might find asbestos include the following:

  • guttering
  • bath panels
  • central heating flues
  • garage and shed roofs
  • insultation panels in some storage heaters
  • linings for walls, ceilings and doors.

As long as it is undamaged, it is safe. In most cases, as long as the asbestos is not damaged, the council will leave it as it is and not remove it. If you think that you have asbestos in your home, do not drill, sand or saw it and do not try to remove it. We have procedures for managing asbestos, which include surveying buildings to find out where it is so that we can decide the safest way to deal with it.

If you have any concerns about asbestos in your home, contact us on freephone 0800 40 80 160 or email housing.repairs@enfieldhomes.org.

Under no circumstances should you try to remove or dispose of asbestos yourself.
