Fire prevention

Many fires are caused by carelessness, with matches and smoking materials or with cooking equipment or candles. Fires can also be caused by faulty electrical equipment. Remember:

• before you go to bed or go out, close as many doors as possible as this will help prevent fire and smoke from spreading
• fit a smoke alarm and test it regularly
• do not throw water on burning oil or electrical equipment
• do not block hallways and other passages in your home. You need to be able to get out quickly if there is a fire
• make an escape plan so everybody knows how to get out if there is a fire.
