Right to buy

The Right to Buy gives secure council tenants the legal right to buy the home they are renting. Some types of property, such as sheltered housing, are excluded from this scheme. The Right to Buy is based on a discount system. You get a discount on the price you pay for your home, based on the number of years you have been a council tenant. The discount grows each year, until the maximum level is reached.
