Right to swap your home

If you are a secure tenant, you may be able to swap your home with another council tenant or housing association tenant under the Mutual Exchange scheme.

Before swapping homes, you must have our written permission and the permission of the landlord of the property you want to swap with. We may refuse permission for certain reasons, for example:

• either tenant wishing to exchange owes rent
• either tenant is under a current court order or Notice of Seeking Possession
• either home is too big or too small for the family that wishes to move into it
• your home has been specially adapted and the family you intend to exchange with doesn’t need those adaptations.
